Loons Swinging Their Own Brand of "Wonderboys."
|
This year in the hands of the Vergas
Loons a new brand of lumber will help
them swing for the fences. "G-Bats,"
handcrafted by Vergas native and Loon
Ball player Garrett Bunkowske, will
make their debut at Vergas's season
opener in Bluffton on Sunday, April
30th, with a 1:30pm start. Bunkowske,
20 years of age has played a role in the
Loons' organization for over 15 years.

Beginning first as Bat Boy, and then advancing to score keeper, and now
Player. He has been involved with woodworking and carpentry for the last
six years. Bunkowske, is currently enrolled at North Dakota State University
(NDSU) where he is majoring in Construction Management.
"G-Bats" are made out of high quality Ash and Maple. The bats are custom
made to fit each individual player's needs. Bunkowske, decided to craft
baseball bats because of his love for the game and woodworking. He
states, "there is no better feeling, then getting a hit with a bat that I
handcrafted myself."
Added to the amateur baseball schedule this year is an "All-Star" Game to
be held at Jake Wolford Field in Dent on Friday, June 30th. Bunkowske will
be designing the "Home-Run" Hitting Contest Award which will be given to
the winning slugger. The derby will begin with a 7pm start with the game to
follow.
