The Miss Vergas Scholarship Program was established
over 20 years ago by founder Shelley Bunkowske.
Throughout the years the program has helped to promote
the post educational dreams of many young women in our
area.  The program is designed for young women ages 17-20
who live with in one of the four school districts in Vergas
which are; Frazee-Vergas, Perham-Dent, Detroit Lakes, &
Pelican Rapids, or whom have close personal ties to the
community of Vergas.
The Miss Vergas Scholarship Program is a three phase
competition consisting of Personal Interview worth 40% of
the contestant's score, Talent worth 30%, and the Evening
Gown competition breaking into two categories;  on-stage
question worth 15% and the choice & walk of their gown
worth the remaining 15%. Each contestant receives a score
on a scale of 1-10 in each phase of competition, with 5 being
average.  The winner of Miss Vergas receives a $700
educational scholarship, crown, & banner. 1st Runner-up
receives a $200 educational scholarship. The winners of the
three phases of competition also receive a $50
educational scholarship. The Miss Vergas Scholarship
Program is designed to give young ladies in our community
the opportunity to gain self-confidence, poise, and
ownership of the community in which they live.
This year will mark the crowning of the 21st Miss Vergas
Scholarship Program, to be held on Thursday, August
10th, 2006, @ 7:30pm at the Vergas Community Center.
